Welcome to the Lab, my personal internet hideaway where I can vent my geekiness in a healthy way!…Somewhat healthy…well it means my friends irl don’t have to listen to me, so I guess that’s a win.
My name is theMadCEHMist (pronounced chemist), but you can call me Mad if you like. Most people do.
Anyway, this blog is basically tantamount to a personal journal where I plan on posting weekly reviews and thoughts on different stuff I come across around my house and, on occasion, the outside world.
Considering this is the “About” section, I suppose I should probably say a few words about myself, huh? Well, for starters I’m a twenty-something university grad with a major in English Literature and a minor in Cultural Studies. I have an almost ADHD approach to geek culture and fandoms and instead of picking a few and engrossing myself in them completely, I bounce around from one series to another, from one medium to another, from one genre to another like some kind of hyperactive tree frog on coke and sugar. I have a distinct lack of “identity”, in other words, and because of that I think that makes my worldview concerning different…stuff interesting.
Thanks to my English degree, I know how to painstakingly pull things apart like your most nitpicky grandma. I love diving deep into anything I can get my hands on, and I will be mean (even to things I love) if I don’t think they’re up to snuff. I’m also pretty easy to please and don’t hate a lot of things, so when something pisses me off you know it did something wrong. You’re talking to someone who loves crap like King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Space Jam, and has a little soft spot for Twilight.
And now that most of you have clicked off because my taste in things sucks, let me also say I love the LotR (books and movies), V for Vendetta (comic and movie), anything Stepjan Sejic does, and God of Boy.
God of War. I meant God of War.
I’m a goof, an unapologetic nerd, a bit of a freak, and have an incurable case of needing to talk about my opinion. Must be the Scottish in me.
For those of you at all interested, thanks for checking me out! For those of you who aren’t, have fun elsewhere and Papa Bless. For the rest of you…I dunno, enjoy a complimentary No Prize from me. 🙂
See you around the lab! Try not to blow anything up.
P.S. My Grading System!
My parents are teachers, and despite never wanting to ever be at the head of a classroom myself, I’ve learned how to mark things like a teacher would. At least a teacher from Ontario, Canada. So, just so everyone understands what the percentages I give my work and which letter grade it coincides with, here it is, for your viewing pleasure!

These numbers are what I’m using to review and grade anything on this site. So, hopefully that helps to explain the method to my madness!
